Congratulations and well done to our players - 26th SEA Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championships


Malaysia finished with 1 gold 2 silvers and 8 bronzes at the 26th Southeast Asian Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championships.


The competition was held in Bangkok, Thailand from the 17th to the 22nd of this month. Malaysia won the gold via Cadet Boy’s Singles.


Lai Yong Han, who had a bye in the first round, defeated Indonesia's MUHAMMAD ALGHIFARI 3-2 in the 2nd round, to reserve his last eight place. During the quarter finals, Lee Yong Han beat MUHAMMAD NAUFAL JUNINDRA from Indonesia with 3-0.


Lai Yong Han had recorded a 4-0 semi-final success against Thailand’s Nimit Soiphuang. He ousted 4-3 Singapore’s Ellsworth Le to claim the title.


Moreover, Malaysia also took silver in the Junior Boys’ Doubles, while 4 bronzes came from the Junior Girl's Singles, Junior Mixed Doubles, Junior Girls’ Doubles, Cadet Boys’ Doubles, and Cadet Girl's Singles.


Junior Boys’ Doubles, Wong Qi Shen/Tan Yi Heng beat’s Indonesia’s Fikri Faqih Fadilah/Braydon Juvensim 3-0, followed by success against Thailand’s Punnatat/Bhudj Panfueng 3-0 to reach the semi-final. They surprised Singapore pairs Tan Zhao Ray/Andy Wong Yan Kai 3-0 to enter the final. But eventually lost 1-3 to Thailand’s NAPAT/ SITISAK.


In the Junior Girl’s Singles, Im Li Ying won the bronze medal for Malaysia.She showed a good fight before losing to Thailand's WANWISA 3-4 during the semi-finals.


Junior Mixed Doubles, Malaysia had 2 pairs stormed into semi-finals. Wong Qi Shen/Im Li Ying 1-3 lost to Thailand’s Napat/Wanwisa, Tan Yi Heng/Lim Jing Shuen 1-3 suffered a blow from Thailand’s Sitisak/Wirakarn.


Junior Girls’ Doubles, Im Li Ying/Gan Ai Lis have overcome Singapore’s Ser Lin Qian/Janissa Cheng Yoke Ning 3-1 in the quarter-finals, but lost to Thailand ‘s Wirakarn.Thanathnan during the semi-finals.


Malaysia have 2 others bronzes from singles events that are Cadet Boy’s Doubles (Lai Yong Han/Yew Yan Bin) and Cadet Girl’s Singles (Gan Ai Lis). Cadet Boy’s Doubles.


For the team events, Malaysia have 1 silver and 2 Bronzes, silver was from Cadet Boys’ Team, while the bronze medals are from Junior Boys’ Team and Cadet Girls’ Team.


Beh Lee Fong, national back-up team coach, said:” I am very satisfied with their overall performance, especially Lai Yong Han, who won the Cadet Boy’s Singles, he played quite well. However, there is still room for improvement, and hope everyone works and trains harder. “
